And I passed by thee, and saw thee:
and behold thy time was the time of lovers:
and I spread my garment over thee,
and covered thy ignominy. And I swore to thee,
and I entered into a covenant with thee,
saith the Lord God: and thou becamest mine.
Ezekiel 16, 8
And in the sixth month, the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city in
Galilee, called Nazareth, to a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Mary.
And the angel being come in, said unto her: Hail, full of grace, the Lord is with
thee: blessed art thou amongst women… And the angel said to her: Fear not,
Mary, for thou hast found grace with God. Behold thou shalt conceive in thy
womb, and shalt bring forth a son; and thou shalt call his name Jesus. He shall
be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God shall
give unto him the throne of David his father; and he shall reign in the house of
Jacob for ever. And of his kingdom there shall be no end. And Mary said to the
angel: How shall this be done, because I know not man? And the angel
answering, said to her: The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of
the Most High shall overshadow thee. And therefore also the Holy which shall
be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.

of Israel; After those days, says the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts,
and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.

Vows taken by a married woman
“ And if she is married to a husband, while under her vows or any thoughtless
utterance of her lips by which she has bound herself, and her husband hears of it,
and says nothing to her on the day that he hears; then her vows shall stand, and
her pledges by which she has bound herself shall stand. But if, on the day that her
husband comes to hear of it, he expresses disapproval, then he shall make void her
vow which was on her, and the thoughtless utterance of her lips, by which she
bound herself; and the LORD will forgive her.”
Vows to afflict herself
“Any vow and any binding oath to afflict herself, her husband may establish, or
her husband may make void. But if her husband says nothing to her from day to
day, then he establishes all her vows, or all her pledges, that are upon her; he has
established them, because he said nothing to her on the day that he heard of them.
But if he makes them null and void after he has heard of them, then he shall bear

do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what
is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.”
